We are an information company. Our goal is to compress as much of the world’s information as possible, and access the knowledge contained within that information. We want to make it easier for the citizens of the world, to be able to acquire, process, keep, and utilize the knowledge in a wide variety of its forms.
Our vision is the ultimate democratization of knowledge. Even though the modern web has opened the boundaries of knowledge substantially, we believe there is still a fundamental barrier that prevents underserved communities (particularly in developing societies, but also in sections of advanced societies) from acquiring effective knowledge. What is that barrier ? Not being able to visualize the knowledge and the amount of effort required to achieve competence (i-e to internalize that knowledge).
Our premise is as follows: Its not the access to knowledge that hampers an underprivileged kid. Its the ability to navigate around that knowledge successfully (or unsuccessfully) that makes a difference. One has to be able to enter at the right point in the knowledge tree. And then be able to exit at an appropriate point, to leverage the newly found competence to best use. This is what makes a difference in career and in the confidence to dig deeper into the tree. And that position of advantage in confidence, is everything !! The privileged kids have Ivy league professors, elite mentors, coaches, to help them navigate the nooks and crevices of the knowledge tree. The under-privileged have the knowledge in front of them, but no such mentorship. We want to change that for good.
